The transition from childhood to adulthood is a crucial time for young people with learning disabilities. Securing the right support is key to making the process as painless as possible. Netbuddy's new Transition info pack is full of useful resources, information and tips to help guide families through this important stage. It includes a step-by-step outline of the stages of transition, from age 11-to-14 through to adulthood.

The Vassall Centre Open Day is on Tuesday July 24th, from 10.00 to 15.00. Come and meet Crystal Eyes, one of the Wow Bristol Zoo Gorillas, join our Olympic torch parade or have your face painted. And watch out: the Daleks will be returning plus a troop of cybermen and a special appearance by Darth Vader. There will be stalls and demonstrations to watch plus refreshments and a BBQ. Entry is FREE and there will be lots of free activities for children.

You can get a driving licence at 16, but many young people find it difficult to know where to begin. Come along to one of 3 different days & venues to have all your questions answered & test drive different adapted cars.

Fix the Web is an initiative to tackle web and software accessibility issues by giving disabled users a voice. You can report accessibility problems with websites in very quick and simple ways. Volunteers take the issues up with website owners so you don’t have to!

Leonard Cheshire Disability invites disabled people who are new to triathlon, to take part in a series of free taster sessions in London next month. The event is an accessible, short distance triathlon for people of all ages and abilities to swim, bike and run together. And a junior race has also been introduced for those aged 13-16. Following last year’s success, the competition will take place on 19 August at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in South London.

Physionet is a charity based in Yorkshire, England set up in 2005 to provide physiotherapy equipment to disabled children in Eastern & Central Europe and in developing countries round the world. All equipment is donated and it is refurbished prior to shipment. Please donate your unwanted equipment.

ITCanHelp volunteers visit people with disabilities in their own homes to offer free help with set-up, getting connected to the net, basic instruction, impartial advice on hardware, software and assistive technology. They can help resolve most problems like infections & hardware failures.
